The Louvre was beautiful and full of beautiful things. However, since it was high tourist season, it was crowded, and we were routinely trampled by Japanese tour groups, who were quite possibly worse than us Americans. Later, while I pushed through a crowd of camera-toting tourists photographing, but not looking at, the Mona Lisa, my wife stood nearby, amusing herself by watching the pickpockets at work in the crowd. (Our tour company saved us all a lot of trouble by making us wear concealed money belts at all times.) |
